From Vision to Visual Identity: Inside the Golden Graces Branding Shoot

There are some clients who hand you a questionnaire and hand you everything — their heart, their dream, their trust. Katelyn of Golden Graces Skincare was one of those clients, and this shoot reminded me exactly why I love what I do.

First, Meet Golden Graces

Golden Graces is a holistic skincare studio built around one beautifully simple belief: people need to be reminded they are loved. Founded by a licensed esthetician whose calling literally lives on her skin — tattooed on both arms in the words "You are loved" — every facial at Golden Graces is fully customized and rooted in skin barrier health, advanced facial massage, and something rarer than any product on a shelf: genuine, intentional human connection.

This wasn't just a business launch. It was a life's purpose stepping into the world, and the branding needed to honor that.

What She Came to Me With

When Katelyn filled out my branding questionnaire, she was refreshingly honest: she didn't have a location in mind, didn't have specific shot ideas locked in, and was open to direction on outfits, props, and styling. She gave me the creative keys and said, go.

But here's what she did give me — and it was more than enough:

  • A brand palette of mauve pink, cream, and pistachio green
  • A love of lily flowers, gua sha stones, and texture
  • A warm, soft-spoken, intentional aesthetic she described as feeling "light and airy"
  • A clear ideal client: health-conscious, faith-rooted, slow-living women who take their skin seriously
  • And a soul behind the brand that was kind, bubbly, and quietly powerful

That's a photographer's dream brief. Specific enough to anchor, open enough to create.

no more second-guessing your content. You deserve imagery that stops people in their tracks.

Let's capture your brand.

Building the Shoot from the Ground Up

Because Katelyn trusted me with the full creative direction, I approached this like a brand strategist as much as a photographer. Here's how I thought through each element:

The Location

She needed something that felt warm but elevated — not clinical, not overly trendy. Somewhere soft light could pool and the brand's pistachio-and-mauve palette could breathe. I sourced a location that would evoke the exact feeling she described: Sanctuary in Lexington, KY. A venue with a ceiling of windows to play with fun shadows, lime-washed mauve walls, and plenty of plants and minimalist decor to set the tone.

The Wardrobe

The directive was "elevated casual" — which I love, because it's the sweet spot between approachable and professional. We styled looks that felt like her while still reading polished for a website header and social grid.

The Props

Katelyn knew she wanted her gua sha stone and the skincare line she'd be carrying — tools of her trade that communicate expertise without a word. We layered in lily florals (her brand icon), soft textures, and intentional negative space to let the imagery breathe and keep the focus on her and her work.

The Feel on Set

Katelyn rated herself a 7 out of 10 on camera confidence — self-aware enough to know she'd need a warm-up, secure enough to trust the process. We played music on my speaker and I made sure to pick up a Coke Zero for her on my way. Her right side is her favorite, and we worked with that naturally throughout.

The Marketing Need Behind the Shoot

Katelyn was launching Golden Graces from scratch. No website. No content library. No visual identity beyond her logo and color palette. She needed imagery that could do a lot of heavy lifting across a lot of channels — simultaneously.

That meant shooting with intentional versatility:

  • Wide, clean hero compositions for website headers and landing pages
  • Tighter, intimate portraits for the "About" page and social storytelling
  • Detail and product shots of her tools and skincare line — the kind of imagery that builds trust and communicates craft
  • Lifestyle moments that show who she is, not just what she does
  • Varied backgrounds and crops so no two posts feel like duplicates

The goal was to hand her a content library she could pull from for months, across every platform, without the visual repetition that makes a brand feel thin.

What She's Done with Them

Pull up goldengracesskincare.com and you'll see exactly where every photo landed.

The very first thing you see on the homepage is a full-width hero image — one of my own — with the headline "Facials For Skin + Soul." Scroll down and her services section is anchored by another shot. Keep going and there's a lifestyle image drawing visitors toward her About page, followed by a five-photo grid at the bottom that functions as both a portfolio and a social proof moment. Her Instagram feed section at the footer pulls in even more content from the shoot.

The entire website — every section, every scroll — is built from this one shoot. And on social media? She's been posting consistently since launch without running dry, because we planned for that. Different crops, different contexts, different moods — same cohesive brand.

That's the power of a truly thought-through branding session. It doesn't just give you pretty photos. It gives you a launchpad.

A Note on What This Kind of Shoot Makes Possible

Golden Graces is proof of something I believe deeply: you don't have to have everything figured out to show up looking like you do.

Katelyn came to me at the very beginning — no storefront yet, a suite, a dream, and a calling. We created imagery that positions her for where she's going, not just where she is. Because the women she's trying to reach — the pilates-going, faith-rooted, intentional-living women who take their skin seriously — they need to see someone who matches their energy before they'll ever book.

These photos say: I see you. I'm professional. I care. Come in.

That's not just branding. That's her entire mission, rendered visible.

This is exactly what I'm here for.
